Man allegedly Killed grandmother

A 24-year-old man, Christian Musendiku, who allegedly killed his 80-year-old grandmother, was on Monday arraigned in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope explained to the court that the accused committed the offence on April 2, 1 am, at No. 3, Erelu Street, Ato-Awori, Ijanikin, Lagos. He said that the accused hacked his grandmother, Maria Ogabi, to death with a cutlass. According to the prosecutor, the offence violated Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The accused, however, pleaded for mercy even as he refused to plead guilty. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Adegite, consequently ordered that the defendant be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions. The case was then adjourned until May 16.

Police officer thoroughly beaten by mobs for shooting passenger

A Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), SP Opawoye Adetunji allegedly shot a bus passenger at Alapere area of Ketu on Sunday. Adetunji, Divisional Crime Officer of Sagamu Road Police Division, Ikorodu, was said to have been attacked by a mob, who beat him to a pulp after the incident. The police officer was reportedly rushed to a hospital after he passed out. Acording to online reporters the police officer and a commercial bus driver had an argument at Iyana Ile-Iwe bus-stop after the driver reportedly drove recklessly. After a fight, the man had entered his bus and was driving away when Adetunji allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, which hit the yet-to-be-identified passenger. However, a police source disclosed that the driver had almost hit Adetunji when the latter challenged him. Pandemonium as Shiite, security agents clash in Abuja

Heavy riot is ongoing in the Maitama area of Abuja, the Nigerian capital. According to online reports the riot broke out after protesting Shiite group clashed with some security agents. The group is protesting the release of its leader, El-zakzaky who has been in custody of the DSS. According to an eyewitness, the visibly enraged Shiite members were seen throwing stones and sticks an armoured tank mobilized to the protest scene. They were several attempts by the protesters to break into the armoured vehicle. The Shiites member were not moved by the teargas continuously fired by security agents to disperse them. The protesters are assembled at the Unity Fountain, beside Transcorp hotel. The Shi’ite group have been protesting since Thursday on the streets of Abuja. Meanwhile, residents have been advised to avoid major roads in Maitama and Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory.

3 burnt to death over motorcycles theft in Cross Rive

Three persons were burnt to death on Sunday in Abuochichie junction in Bekwarra LGA of Cross River State for allegedly stealing motorcycles and robbing people in the area. The reporter investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly specialized in stealing motorcycles, terrorizing and robbing the people in the area and its environs. An eyewitness who gave his name as Oiong Kelvin said that the trio met their waterloo after several years of the criminal act. “They were caught in the act by villagers who brought them to the popular junction and set them ablaze,” he said. Another eyewitness, Andrew Okpeche, said the trio were members of a syndicate who specialized in stealing motorcycles and re-selling them to spare parts dealers in Ogoja, and Ikom in Cross River and Vandikia in Benue. Abductors kidnap Otun Olubadan, Lekan Balogun’s twin, demand N100m ransom

There was pandemonium in Akobo Ibadan residence of the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Lekan Balogun on Thursday when two suspected kidnappers stormed the house and abducted his five-year-old twins, a boy and a girl. The Professor was said to have demanded sex from a female student of the institution in return for marks. There are reports that the lecturer had been in hiding since his leaked conversation with the female student went viral on the social media. 25 killed as Taraba boils again

At least, 25 people have been killed in a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen in Jandeikyula village of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. It was gathered that the suspects stormed the village around 7pm of Thursday, killing people and setting many houses ablaze.. Adi Grace, chairman of the Local Government council, confirmed the attack to reporters but said he could not give casualty figures. “Many people were killed in the attack. 10-year-old girl defied by father, son in Benin narrates ordeal

A 10-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a 50-year-old man, Reuben Enosegbe and and his 16-year-old son, Destiny, has narrated how they lured her. The girl explained that they always tempted her with N20 whenever they wanted to sleep with her. She said, “sometimes, they will even beg me to buy recharge card for them to lure me to their house.” She said this while the father and son were arraigned before an Evboriaria Magistrate’s Court in Benin, Edo State yesterday. The accused, Enosegbe and Destiny, however, pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Efe Akhere of Oredo Magistrate Court 3. Offa bank robbery: Police speaks on trending video footage

The Kwara State Police Command has reacted to an alleged video of Offa Bank robbery currently trending online. A Divisional Police Officer, DPO, under the Command, DSP Ajayi Okasonmi, whose number was attached to the video trending online, however, dismissed knowledge of the footage, saying he can’t confirm its authenticity. Okansonmi, who spoke with DAILY POST on Thursday, also assured that the Command was working towards apprehending all those involved in the robbery attack. A housewife, Asma’u Sulaiman, on Thursday prayed a Sharia court at Magajin Gari Kaduna to dissolve her marriage with her husband over frequent demand for anal sex. Suleiman also told the court that her husband, Nura Ahmad, has been assaulting and accusing her of infidelity. “There was a time I went to my parents house over a misunderstanding I had with my husband, when I returned, he accused me of aborting my pregnancy which was not true”, NAN quoted her as saying. The complainant said she came to court to get justice as she could no longer endure the pain and was scared of contracting disease from anal sex. However, Ahmad denied the allegations made against him, saying they were untrue. The Judge, Malam Musa Sa’ad asked the wife if she had any witness that would testify for her and she answered in affirmative except for the intimacy scene. The judge then adjourned the case to April 18 for the complainant to present her witnesses.

Benue under attack again as herdsmen kill 10, sack villagers

No fewer than 10 persons were killed on Wednesday night and many others injured in attacks by suspected herdsmen on Logo and Ukum local government areas of the state. Seven persons were killed in Gbeji, in Ukum LGA, while three were killed in Channel 1, in the Logo LGA. Those killed in Gbeji were identified as Mtserkyaa lgbugh, Kananfa Amarfu, Tyavyar Akau, Orfega Hiikyaa, Kanyitor Uor and a 75-year-old passerby, whose identity has yet to be ascertained. Those killed in Tswaregh were identified as Tor Imbor, Aondowua Mnyor and Msugh Ajura. It was gathered that the herdsmen, who invaded the two local government areas simultaneously, also razed houses and destroyed other property worth millions of Naira. At Logo, two residents, Terkimbir Hemen and Jacob lorkyaa, told newsmen the attack began around 7pm. Police arraign woman for allegedly stealing 7-month-old baby

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 27-year-old woman, Bridget Haruna in a Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a seven-month-old baby girl. Haruna, who reside at Jabi Daki Biyu village, Abuja, was arraigned on a one count charge of stealing a baby. She pleaded not guilty to the charge. Police prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had informed the court that on April 4, one Vourjack Pam, a resident of Gwarinpa Estate Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station. The Bauchi state police command has confirmed that it has recovered about 83 illegal firearms in the state. The Benue State Police Command yesterday arraigned 28 suspects at a Makurdi Magistrate court over their alleged involvement in last Saturday’s gruesome murder of 10 herders at Yelwata, a border town between Benue and Nasarawa states on the Makurdi-Lafia highway. A Mechanic bags 6 months jail for absconding with N30,000

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a motor mechanic, Ibrahim Adeniyi, to 6 months imprisonment for absconding with a customer’s N30, 000. Adeniyi, a resident of Jabi Garage in FCT, was sentenced on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating. The Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, convicted Adeniyi after he had admitted committing the offences. Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine, and warned him to view the reprieve as a second chance to become a better citizen. He also ordered him to return the N14, 000, part of the money he took from the complainant.
