Sacrifice without faith becomes disobedience

WHEN RELIGION REPLACES RELATIONSHIP

Many people think sacrifice can replace obedience

God desires faith-filled obedience, not religious activity

Sacrifice without faith becomes rebellion in disguise

🔑 Central Truth: God is pleased by faith-driven obedience, not empty sacrifice.

II. UNDERSTANDING THE STORY OF SAUL

Text: 1 Samuel 15

God gave Saul clear instructions

Saul partially obeyed

Saul kept what God said destroy

Then offered sacrifice to cover disobedience

Saul thought sacrifice would compensate for disobedience.

🔑 Partial obedience is still disobedience.

III. WHY SACRIFICE WITHOUT FAITH IS DISOBEDIENCE

1. Because It Ignores God’s Word

Faith trusts and obeys God’s instructions.

Sacrifice without faith chooses personal reasoning over divine command.

Obedience flows from faith.

2. Because It Substitutes Action for Trust

Faith says, “I will do exactly what God says.”

Disobedience says, “I will do something religious instead.”

You cannot negotiate with God through sacrifice.

3. Because It Reveals Pride

Saul feared people more than God.

Sacrifice without faith often seeks approval from others.

1 Samuel 15:24 – Saul admitted he feared the people.

Faith honors God above public opinion.

4. Because It Breaks Relationship

Faith builds intimacy.

Disobedience damages fellowship.

Sacrifice cannot repair what rebellion breaks.

IV. MODERN APPLICATION

Sacrifice without faith today may look like:

Serving in church but ignoring God’s voice

Giving money but refusing obedience

Praying publicly but living privately in disobedience

Doing ministry without trusting God

Activity is not the same as obedience.

V. FAITH PRODUCES TRUE OBEDIENCE

Hebrews 11:8 – “By faith Abraham obeyed…”

True faith:

Obeys fully

Obeys promptly

Obeys even when it costs

Obeys without compromise

Faith says, “Lord, Your will, not mine.”

VI. SIGNS YOUR SACRIFICE IS ROOTED IN FAITH

You obey even when unseen

You value God’s voice above people’s opinion

You trust God’s instruction fully

You act from love, not fear

VII. CONCLUSION

God does not want compensation—He wants compliance.

He does not want substitutes—He wants surrender.

Sacrifice without faith becomes disobedience because:

It replaces trust with effort

It replaces obedience with ritual

It replaces humility with pride

Let us choose faith-driven obedience.

CLOSING DECLARATION

I choose obedience over empty sacrifice.

I trust God’s Word completely.

My faith produces full obedience.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WHAT TRUE FAITH LOOK LIKE

Ben Ukeme Key Scripture “But without faith it is impossible to please Him…” — Hebrews 11:6 “The just shall live by faith.” — Habakkuk 2:4 True faith is more than words. It is more than emotion. It is more than saying, “I believe.” True faith is visible. It shows up in how we live, how we respond, and how we obey God. Let us look at what true faith really looks like. 1. TRUE FAITH OBEYS GOD COMPLETELY “By faith Abraham obeyed…” — Hebrews 11:8 Faith is not passive. It moves. Abraham did not just believe God — he acted on what God said. True faith obeys: Even when it does not understand Even when it is uncomfortable Even when it is costly Faith is trust in action. 2. TRUE FAITH TRUSTS GOD’S CHARACTER True faith believes: God is faithful God keeps His promises God is good even when life is difficult Faith says, “Even if I don’t see it yet, I trust Him.” It is confidence in who God is, not just what He can give. 3. TRUE FAITH WALKS BY THE WORD, NOT BY SIGHT “For we walk by faith, not ...
