All APC governors back Tinubu’s security reforms, pledge collaborative efforts to the president

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s “sweeping re-engineering of Nigeria’s security architecture.”

While denying that the military shake-up was connected to a rumored coup plot, the Presidency said it was a move to “inject new direction” into the armed forces.

The APC governors declare that the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains a duty they will actively reinforce in their respective states.

The position emerged after a two-day strategy meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum in Lagos, where the leaders reviewed national challenges, including security coordination, economic reforms and governance at the grassroots.

Details of the resolutions were contained in a press statement titled “APC Governors Back Tinubu On Security Measures, Pledges Complementary Measures” and signed by Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser – Media and Publicity to the Lagos State Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu, on December 6, 2025.

In the communiqué read by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the governors said they reviewed the security situation nationwide and expressed appreciation for what they described as improved synergy among security structures.

The statement read: “The Forum reviewed the security situation across the country and expressed appreciation for the improved coordination between federal, state and local security structures, as well as the courage and sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers. We then resolved to strengthen local security architecture in all the member states.”

The governors commended Tinubu for ongoing reforms, adding: “The Forum commended Mr. President for the ongoing re-engineering in the security architecture of the country. Governors reiterated that safety of lives and property remains a non-negotiable obligation of government. We resolved to continue strengthening community-based security initiatives, intelligence gathering and conflict-prevention mechanisms, while supporting victims of violence and disaster.”

Beyond security, the Forum assessed the economic landscape, acknowledging the strain on citizens as a result of macro-economic adjustments.

Uzodimma stated: “Recognising the temporary burdens that accompany necessary macro-economic reforms, the Forum reviewed the state of the economy and the cost-of-living pressures being experienced by citizens. Governors acknowledged the resilience and patience of Nigerians and expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices being made in the collective interest of a stronger and more inclusive economy.”

He added that the governors had resolved to scale up interventions in food production, SME support, youth employment and targeted social protection for vulnerable groups.

“The Progressive Governors are committed to work closely with Federal institutions and local governments to ensure that things keep improving, that no group is left behind, and that the gains of reforms continue to translate into visible improvements in the quality of life of the people,” it further read.

The Forum also highlighted infrastructure and urban renewal as essential for economic productivity, commending Lagos State for its “pioneering role in transport reforms, urban regeneration and innovative financing models.”
